This project involved the construction of a 26.46 square meter wrap around extension for our clients. The primary need was to create a modern, thermally efficient additional space. The solution was a structurally robust, steel-framed extension finished with a sleek grey silicon render and high-performance glazing, all built on a ground screw foundation system.
The project centred on adding a significant single-storey wrap around extension to their property. A key challenge was ensuring the new structure would seamlessly integrate with the existing building while providing exceptional thermal performance, meeting U-Values of 0.13 for the floor and roof, and 0.18 for the walls. This was achieved using a structural frame of 6mm gauge steel with M12 bolted connections, ensuring long-term stability and strength. The design specified structural insulated panels made from OSB and FSC-graded timber for the walls, floor, and roof, which were crucial for meeting the stringent thermal requirements.
The exterior was finished in a contemporary grey silicon render, complemented by bespoke black polyester powder-coated steel for the facia and corner profiles, creating a sharp, modern aesthetic. A significant aspect of the construction was the use of galvanised steel ground screws for the foundation, minimising disruption and providing a solid base for the structure. The project also included creating structural openings to connect the new extension to the existing kitchen and diner. Internally, the space was finished with plasterboard walls and ceilings, pencil-round skirting boards, and a provision for a high-quality plank-style floor.
